Rensselaer County resident Darren Miller, of Grafton, died Saturday, Oct. 1, at the age of 35, according to his obituary.
State police said Miller was working at R.J. Valente Gravel in Grafton at around 8:15 a.m. when a piece of equipment fell and struck him. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The accident is still being investigated by State police and the Mine Safety and Health Administration.
Born on Aug. 2, 1987 in Syracuse, Miller graduated from Averill Park High School in 2006, his memorial said.
He graduated from Modern Welding School in 2010, and was working as a diesel mechanic for R&L Carrier in Troy at the time of his death, according to his obituary.
“He was a comical friend that you could count on, always willing to complete a task and enjoyed various outdoor activities and anything with an engine,” reads Miller’s memorial.
Goulet Trucking, located in the Town of Nassau, said they had the pleasure of working with Miller.
“He was a great employee and friend,” the company wrote on Miller’s obituary page. “Please accept our heartfelt condolences. We are deeply sorry for this loss to his loving family.”
Miller leaves behind a wife, Caitlyn, in addition to his parents, Gregory and Lauren, and brother Ryan, his memorial said.
